Murder Mysteries, Ghost Stories Suspense Novels, Short Stories
The best of these stories made me think of a more erotic version of Raymond Chandler or Dashiell Hammett. Wilder uses details to paint a picture of a very dark world, and this was especially the case at the end of Amarillo - "A chill breeze, leaving a pall in my heart, gusted down the aisle. It whistled like Daddy's belt, causing me to remember the sting of its buckle."
